Birding
with June |
June Osborne past away August 15, 2007, at the age
of 76.
She
was resident birder at Neals Lodges in Concan each spring
for many years.
She
also wrote several books about birding, including 'The Ruby-Throated
Hummingbird", "The Cardinal", Birders
Guide to Concan, TX and an anthology titled, Id
Rather Be Birding.
June will be sorely missed by everyone at
Neal's. She left instructions about the bird feeders when she left
last May and we will try to keep the birds as happy as she did.
There
is a wonderful article in Wild
Bird magazine Nov-Dec 07 about June, and if you haven't
already read June's diaries over the last few years see how much
she loved birding and this area.
June was
always happiest when she was showing others the joys of Birding.

When
June could not be outside Birding she loved writing about it.

The area surrounding Concan is considered one of the
best Birding areas in Texas! Several hundred species of birds can
be spotted throughout the year, including the endangered Golden-cheeked
Warbler and Black-capped Vireo. In addition to great Birding, visitors
to Neal's will receive a 30% discount off cabin rentals in March and
a 20% discount throughout April and May.
The Texas Hill Country River Region (of which Neal's
Vacation Lodges is a member) sponsors NATURE QUEST, the Texas Hill
Country's premier nature festival. Renowned experts from across the
United States conduct nature tours (Birding, wildflowers, bat emergence,
butterfly watching, and more) and a series of lectures at locations
throughout Uvalde county. For more information call the Texas Hill
Country River Region at 1-800-210-0380 or visit www.thcrr.com.
